Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), the national body for Marketing in Sri Lanka, announced the instigation of their annual award ceremony, SLIM DIGIS 2.0, for the year 2019. Hosted to reward the companies that have significantly contributed to the digital marketing sector of Sri Lanka, SLIM DIGIS aims to celebrate Sri Lanka’s best digital marketing work, innovation and talent, as well as recognizing the region’s growing influence on the global digital industry.
SLIM embarked on their premiere digital awards program last year and it showed great promise and was a resounding success. It was heartening to note that the first SLIM DIGIS was the stepping stone for more events to come, with the company’s goal to instate DIGIS as a major annual event aiming to contribute to the digital marketing sector.
The main reason for hosting this significant event is to identify the pivotal role that digital marketing plays in the marketing industry. The demand for and importance of the digital industry has been escalating over the years, and SLIM, as an industry leader, has identified the need to reward the industry for their successful efforts to improve the nation’s digital marketing scope.
The unique aspect of SLIM DIGIS is that both small and medium industries are able to participate and be duly recognized for their efforts to contribute to the digital marketing and advertising sector. The importance of small and big sized institutions in the digital sector participating in this programme is that the awareness of the increasing need for digital marketing is highlighted and as to influence them to grow further along with these appreciations.
In the year 2018, contestants were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze in the categories “Best Digital Marketing Innovation”, “Best use of Branded Content”, “Best use of Mobile for Marketing” and “Digital Marketing Grand Prix”. The awards programme encouraged projects which were innovative, contemporary and in line with global standards which would inspire Sri Lanka’s digital marketing industry and the next generation of practitioners. The Asia Marketing Federation (AMF) also endorsed SLIM DIGIS to AMF member countries as it has fulfilled all the criteria of AMF guidelines.
The SLIM DIGIS awards programme has not, however, been the pilot project of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing. Two years ago, SLIM launched a Digital Marketing Educational Program in order to educate the youth on the importance and values of digital marketing and advertising. It has been our initiative to further promote the use of digital marketing in order to strengthen the marketing sector of Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) is the apex body for Sri Lankan Marketers, which was founded in 1970 and subsequently incorporated by an act of Parliament in 1980, recognizing it as the National Body for Marketing and a ‘not-for-profit’ organization. SLIM has been promoting marketing excellence and elevating the status of marketing in Sri Lanka since its inception. In addition, SLIM is the host and also the principal partner in Sri Lanka’s most acclaimed and reputed awards ceremonies such as SLIM Nielsen Peoples awards, Brands Excellence, NASCO and Effie awards.
